A Luxurious Escape: Exploring the Splendor of Baha Mar Resort in Nassau, Bahamas

As our plane glided over the turquoise waters surrounding Nassau, Bahamas, I couldn’t stop myself from taking pictures and video through the tiny oval window. I have been to many islands in the Caribbean, but this color of blue was breathtaking. I looked forward to landing and immersing myself in the opulence of the renowned Baha Mar Resort. This was my first trip to the Bahamas and I was looking forward to an escape from the hustle and bustle of ordinary life.

Getting To Nassau

The two easiest ways to reach Nassau, Bahamas is to fly or take a cruise. The port accommodates several cruise ships each day and is a popular first stop for ships leaving Florida. For us, flying in from Orlando, our journey to this tropical paradise was a mere hop away. I didn’t even get to finish my movie on the plane before we landed. From there, it was a quick 15-minute ride to the resort. From the moment we set foot in the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, one of the three stunning properties within the resort, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a sense of grandeur that set the tone for our entire stay.

Activities at Baha Mar Resort, Nassau, Bahamas

Unlike many resorts in the Bahamas, Baha Mar is not all-inclusive, which allows for a more tailored experience, catering to individual preferences and desires. This flexibility was evident in every aspect of our stay, from the diverse dining options to the array of activities available for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

The resort offers a choice of 11 pools and each one is different. One of the highlights of our stay was lounging by the Fortune swimming pool which has a swim up bar. If you didn’t feel like entering the water to get your drink, you merely had to catch the attention of one of the many servers circling the pool. This was perfect because I came prepared to relax and had brought the ultimate beach read with me to while away the hours under my beachside umbrella. And, take care. Even though, you are under an umbrella, you will still want sunblock and a decent pair of sunglasses.

While I’m not a gambler, the resort's vibrant casino did promise thrills. From lively table games to state-of-the-art slot machines, there was never a dull moment at the Baha Mar Casino. For me, however, the true entertainment came from people-watching all the fabulous outfits.

Beyond the beach and the casino, Baha Mar also boasts an impressive array of retail outlets, offering everything from designer fashion to locally crafted souvenirs. Strolling through the bustling shops and boutiques, we found ourselves indulging in a bit of retail therapy, picking up mementos to commemorate our unforgettable stay.

What to Wear at Baha Mar Resort

As evening descended, one question lingered in our minds: What to wear? While Baha Mar does not have a strict dress code, I never pass up an opportunity to dress up. For the most part, when it comes to dining at Baha Mar, resort casual attire is generally appropriate, meaning stylish yet comfortable clothing such as polo shirts and slacks for men, and sundresses or dressy separates for women. However, for those planning to dine at the resort's fine dining establishments, a slightly more formal attire, such as collared shirts and elegant dresses, is recommended.

When it comes to daytime activities, resort wear such as swimsuits, cover-ups, and flip-flops are perfect for lounging by the pool or beach. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to stay protected from the sun's rays while enjoying outdoor activities.

Whether lounging by the pool or enjoying a fabulous dinner, we truly made the most of our time at Baha Mar Resort. And, even though I opted for yoga in the comfort of my hotel room over the extensive gym facilities, I did treat myself to a heavenly massage at the luxurious Espa Spa. In essence, our journey to this idyllic tropical getaway checked off all the boxes: sunshine, culinary delights, pampering, and ultimate relaxation.
